Birthdays And Fashion With Sir Stampalot

~~~Happy April~~~
A WHOLE lot happening this month for me. Lia's Birthday is on the 4th and party on the 9th so it's crunch time! Almost all of the decorations were done by hand so celebrations kinda started last month...LOL. The only way I can stay on top of things is to designate a day for each room in the house so Birthday/Spring clean up begins! UGH....
On the brighter side of things, It's a new month sooooo new challenge for Sir Stampalot :))
Why I am posting about them? Well.......
Back in October I had won their Autumn Breeze Challenge and they asked me to guest design this month! How happy was I? AM I??? UBER!!!!
Along with the monthly challenge which is Women And Fashion, the team and I have something special for you ;)
Sir Stampalot turns 1!!!
So now for the real fun bit.........this month the Design Team will be displaying their work on their own blogs only. And on the Sir Stampalot Blog we have a collection of pictures and pieces of artwork.............It was going to be jumbled all up, but that would be a bit too wicked, so they have been paired up.......a picture of each DT member along with a piece of their work which they have selected best depicts their style of crafting, plus a snipped from their DT piece for the month. Have you guessed what you need to do......? That's right, you have to decide which of our Design Team fits which mystery DT member. When you think you have the answers mail Brenda@ibas.co.uk with your list. There will be three small prizes for those with all or the most correct pairings that reach Brenda before 25th April. Any after that date will not be included.
So now that ya got the nitty gritty, here is my take on the Women And Fashion Challenge....
I really stepped out of my usual for this one! Such a special month so I wanted to create something with "Oomph" lol
This was soooooo much fun to make. Actually quite simple. I sat in front of the T.V fanning and folding for a couple of hours, did some inking and started to piece it all together. The dress formation I made out of paper mache. The top of her dress I simply glued directly on her body. I started with the bottom layer and worked my way up. Every second layer, I added some tulle and stringed pearls. Once I got to the top, it became a little tricky. I used all paper scraps for the entire dress so it was heavy cardstock. Bending and molding obviously wasn't going to work so with the fanning in front.....she looks like a prom girl from the late 80's! LMBO
Well, there ya go! I'm sure this won't be my last time making one of these. She will probably join the party table for Lia's Birthday. Lovely Lia is very proud of her and me :))
Here are a few challenges I'd like to enter....
Color, Color, Color!
Happy Thursday :)
I don't usually start a post with water cooler talk but this one I love! We all create wonderful peices of art everyday but do we really take the time to "see" what we create?
Did you know that we can see 10 million colors?! Actually it's more than that! Here is a short article I stumbled upon....
Careful measurements of our visual system’s best performance have been
made by psychophysicists (people who study human responses, like seeing
color, to things in the world, like light). They have shown that we can see
about 1000 levels of light-dark, 100 levels of red-green, and 100 levels of
yellow-blue for a single viewing condition in a laboratory. This means that
the total number of colors we can see is about 1000 x 100 x 100 = 10,000,000
(10 million). A computer displays about 16.8 million colors to create fullcolor
pictures, really more than necessary for most situations.
However, the answer is not quite so simple. What color looks like is greatly
affected by the viewing conditions. These conditions include the color of
the lighting, the amount of lighting, and other colors in the scene. Colors
also appear in different modes when they appear on different objects such
as surfaces, light sources, or within volumes. Different people also have
slight differences in the way they see color.
Since we can see at least 10-million colors in a single viewing condition and
the variety of viewing conditions and observers is endless, then the only
truly correct answer is infinity. If we have 10-million colors, times 10-
million lighting types, times 10-million lighting levels, times 10-million
surrounding colors, times 6-billion people in the world, times 3 modes of
viewing we get a really huge number. The result of that multiplication is 18
followed by 33 zeros (18,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000), or 18
decillion. That might not quite be infinity, but is close enough since all
those estimated numbers are probably on the low side. And there is no way
to exactly measure each of them
Whatcha think of that?! I don't know about you but I am definately looking at things far more detailed!
So, if you haven't guessed it, Paper Romance challenge this week is COLOR! Let's beautify the web by using as many colors as possible on our projects!
As always, this weeks winner (chosen at random) will recieve a $5 Gift Certificate to the Paper Romance Store :)
Work In Progress
As a dabble into random crafty things, one of my clients asked me for something. She asked me to make her a book cover for her Weight Watchers Points Plus book. Was I up for the challenge? OF COURSE!!
Now that being said, I really didn't have much to go on because her book and calculator goes everywhere she goes so I took super quick measurements and went to work. This is kinda like a draft copy. She gave me some leftover fabric from her chair covers (really really good stuff) and the rest was stuff I had lying around. Long story short.....She looooves it! YEAH!
She brought it to her meeting and her instructor loved it so much she wants one too! Apparently they have a basic one that holds one book only. The fact that it holds all 3 items (2 books, 1 calculator) sold her on it :)
Oh what a happy ending to another trying-something-out-craft story :))
Here are a few pics of what it looks like so far. I still need to add a slot down the center.
Here are a few challenges I can enter.....
Wedding Gift Set
Howdy Folks!
This has been a crazy year for weather so far! Yesterday we experienced a small tremor from an earthquake in Quebec and tonight they are calling for severe thunderstorms ands tornado activity! We don't get much excitement around here so once the tremor hit, everyone was a little confused. My china cabinet was rattling but I thought that was the normal creeks of the house....uh I was soooo wrong!
Anyway, I have been super busy with diaper cakes and gift sets that I haven't been blogging much but I'm back now and on to some challenge entries to boot :)
I love making these sets. The concept was inspired by the wonderful Nicole Heady from Papertry Ink. You can find the original design here and a set that I made based on it here.
This set is the same concept. Although I came up with around 80 questions all wedding and dating related, perfect for a new bride to journal her life with her new husband :)
6
Every time I scrapbook, I can't help look back at earlier pages of Lia and Emma. Seeing the differences in the way they are growing up makes me tear! (sniff sniff) When Lia was about 4 months she had NO hair and now at 6, there is plenty! She never slept as a baby.....that hasn't changed and being the only child for 4 1/2 years made me a little nervous when Emma arrived but from day one, they were destined for each other.
This picture was taken on her 6th Birthday. Well actually, her Birthday party. By the end of the day, even Energizer Bunny Lia was pooped! I love this pic of her. It captures those moments that we wish we can freeze forever.
The Layout also qualifies for a few challenges........
I'm BAAAACK!
WOW! What a crazy couple of months it's been! With Lia's Birthday in April and 4 school Birthday's and colds and coughs in between, crafting time has been next to nil! Just when I thought things were looking up....my computer died! OMG! I never knew I depended on it soooo much! I was terrified that my pictures and digi's were all gone. Thankfully, the hard drive was intact. It took a few weeks for my hubby to find the right system for me and load all my programs and pics but we did it!
Lia received her own Laptop for her Birthday and now I have my own as well! Once my husband gets his....no more sharing! YAY! Finally something to call my own LOL
So the time I did have to craft came fast and furious. I need to create 3 Mother's Day gifts for a client. I came across A DTM over at Papertry Ink named Nichole Heady and her work. She has the most beautiful gift ideas! The Teacher's Journaling Set immediately caught my eye. I switched the theme to Mother and came up with 100 of my own questions a mother would enjoy (ie: Pregnancy, Parenting) and followed her amazing template. And how can I pass up entering a few challenges with this set........
~~ Give some love to the DT'S and pop by their blogs to see some great inspiration~~
And the following challenges......
Polkadoodles- Summer Blossoms
Penny's Paper Crafty- Shaped things (Gable Box)
Creative Card Crew- April Showers bring May Flowers
Flourishes- Card Gift Set
Kaboodle Doodle- Spring has Sprung
Double Dutch- Mum Card with Gift
Incy Wincy Designs- Anything goes
My Recipes:
Teacher's Journal Jar Template by Nichole Heady found HERE
Other: Felt, Buttons, Floss, Basket, Pen, Nugget Bars, Jar, Ribbon
The whole gift set cost about $7.00 (minus the labor!)
Well it feels great to be back in the swing of things. Thanks for stopping by and smelling the flowers! :-)
